MISSING IN ACTION: The Cowboys expect Test prop Matt Scott to return from a foot injury next week, while centre Kane Linnett (hamstring) could also be ready to go for Round 10. Premiership player Glenn Hall (foot) returns on an extended bench in the only change to last week’s team.
For the Dragons, centre Kyle Stanley returns from an ankle injury, shifting Matt Prior into the second-row spot vacated by Beau Scott who is out for up to five weeks with the dislocated shoulder suffered on ANZAC Day against the Roosters. Youngster Jack De Belin returns from a shoulder injury on the bench.
FORM: The Cowboys’ incredibly poor record in Sydney over the years continued last Saturday night when they succumbed 20-16 to the Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium. They let in 20 points in almost even time to begin the match and their penalty-fuelled second-half fightback was not enough to make up the difference. After once gracing the top four with their presence, the Cowboys are now sitting vulnerable in fifth position on the ladder.
It’s been a year of miraculous last-minute comebacks and the Dragons joined the party on ANZAC Day, racing in two tries in the final three minutes to shock the Roosters and the 40,000-strong crowd in attendance. But the 28-24 win wasn’t all beer and skittles, with the merged club looking rather pedestrian for much of the match. It’s amazing what a team can produce when they have to take a few risks. The win keeps the Dragons in the top four.
